Fred Johnson

Professional Profile

The position of County Counselor in Labette County is held by Fred W. Johnson. Born in Coffeyville, Kansas, and raised in Pittsburg, Kansas where he attended and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1971. Fred received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pittsburg State University in 1975 and a Master of Science degree in 1977. A Juris Doctor degree was earned from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas in December, 1979.

Fred and his wife Susan moved to Oswego in March, 1980, whereupon having been appointed assistant county attorney he was immediately assigned the duty of advising the Board of County Commissioners in addition to his criminal prosecution duties. When his son Brian was born in 1981 Fred resigned from the county attorneys office and opened a private practice office in Oswego in association with the law practice of Glenn Jones, Richard Dearth and Richard Helms. Soon thereafter the county commission appointed Fred to the new position of county counselor which has been held by Fred except for approximately a year and a half during the late 1980s.

Fred concentrates on municipal law and associated matters as well as real estate, probate, elder law, banking and education law. Fred is a member of the Kansas and Labette County Bar Associations; a past president and member of the Board of Governors of the Kansas County Counselors Association; the Kansas Municipal Judges Association; Washburn Law School Association and the Kansas Association of School Boards.
