Duties and Responsibilities

A Deputy Sheriff performs a wide range of tasks to promote public safety and security. This includes crime prevention, general enforcement of the law and related work as required. The duties of a Deputy Sheriff include, but are not limited to: patrolling, crime detection, investigations and traffic enforcement.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Must be a US Citizen;
  2. Minimum age = 21;
  3. Must have a valid Kansas Drivers License;
  4. High School Diploma or GED Certificate;
  5. Visual ability can't be less than 20/100 in each eye uncorrected;
  6. Vision corrected to 20/20 with glasses or contact lenses;
  7. Veterans must have an Honorable Discharge;
  8. Must pass a drug screen test;
  9. Height and weight in line with medical established guidelines;
  10. Medical exam will be required upon offer of employment; and
  11. No conviction of felony or excessive misdemeanors.

A thorough background investigation will be conducted by the Labette County Sheriff's Office of all applicants who pass the initial phase of the application process. The background investigation includes, but is not limited to the following: Criminal history, driver's history, employment history and NCIC.

Application Process

Complete the required application form and return it to the Labette County Sheriff's Office. Testing for the position of Deputy Sheriff is done on an as needed basis. You will be contacted and informed as to the date, time and place of the written exam and physical agility test.
