The department is operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and has several departments. The patrol officers and investigative officers of the department are responsible for providing visible proactive patrols and investigative duties of the county on a daily basis. Deputies are responsible for enforcing state statute violations along with enforcing the city code violations in the cities of Edna and Mound Valley. During the year of 2011, officers investigated 284 motor vehicle accidents and filed 652 offense reports.
The Labette County Jail can house up to 83 inmates on any given day and time, including many inmates housed on contract from Sedgwick County, along with other counties within the state. The funds from housing the out-of-county inmates have allowed the Sheriff's Office to add additional staffing and purchase vehicles and equipment, at no additional cost to the Labette County Taxpayers.
